Maintenance of Solar Panels

To keep your load-shedding solution running at 100%, follow our quick maintenance checklist:

1. The “Cool-Down” Rule

Never clean your solar panels in the middle of a hot day. Spraying cold water on scorching glass can cause thermal shock and lead to cracks.

  • The Fix: Only clean your panels in the early morning or late evening when they are cool to the touch.

2. Soft Touch Only

Solar panels have a specialized anti-reflective coating.

  • The Fix: Use a soft cloth, a sponge, or a squeegee with a long handle. Avoid abrasive brushes, steel wool, or high-pressure washers, as these can scratch the surface and permanently lower your energy yield.

3. Skip the Chemicals

Harsh detergents can leave a film that actually attracts more dust.

  • The Fix: Plain water is usually enough. If you have stubborn bird droppings, use a small amount of mild dish soap. Always rinse thoroughly with clean water.

4. The Visual Inspection

While you’re up there (or looking from a ladder), check for:

  • Overhanging branches that might be shading your panels (shading drastically reduces output on most strings).
  • Any signs of “hot spots” or browned areas on the cells.
  • Ensure the mounting brackets are still tight and secure.

5. Monitor Your Inverter

Keep an eye on your Hybrid Inverter app. If you notice a sudden drop in peak production on a clear, sunny day, it’s usually a sign that a cleaning is overdue!
